Surfing with your couch?

Category: 4.- Travelling Date 2012-11-18 15:33:48

Have you ever heard anything about CouchSurfing?

Yes, you’re right.  It’s very odd that these two words are linked in one: a sport like surf and a piece of furniture, a sofa. If it seems to you strange I’ve to tell you that this word it’s about travelling.
It’s a way to know places and meet new friends that a lot people choose every day to travel all around the world.
It’s more than travelling since it involves a culture and customs exchange between people who didn't meet before.

Do you want to know more? Are you perhaps interested in it?

Get access to the website and get more information.  Click on one of the news below extracted from different newspapers and magazines and you will know many things about this kind of travelling.

Then answer me, please.

Would you dare to take part of this community?

Would you prefer to receive someone in your house or to be received in any place?

Do you think it’s an interesting way to know a country life?

Which one would you choose to go in your first time?

Next holidays by Alvaro

Category: 2.- Future plans Date 2012-11-17 10:24:07

Hello everyone,

When I got married, my wife and I travelled from Zaragoza by AVE to Madrid and from Madrid we flew to Czech Republic. We visited three big towns: Praga, Viena and Budapest.

On the next holidays we would like to travel at other country such as Egypt.  There we would visit the Cairo museum, in this museum we may see a lot  pieces of the ancient Egypt, although if  you want to see the best pieces, you will  have to go to the British museum in London.

In the city  we would go to the  souk or the Arab market , there we would buy a lot of Egyptian typical things as spices,  a water pipe, bedside rugs and many other souvenirs.

Later, we would go to know Keops, Kefren and Mikerinos pyramids and the Sakara stepped pyramid, of course.

Another day  we could do a Nile cruise until getting Abu Simbel temple.  A friend  of mine has told me that it is very beautiful mainly at night.  We may see the ligth show and the stars.

I really hope to do this travel some day, could be next holiday but I am not sure, who knows…

Have you ever been to Egypt?

Which were your impressions?  Just tell us.

Living in La Puebla de Alfinden, by Rosa

Category: 1.- In a town/city Date 2012-11-16 12:01:57

I was born in a little village in Huesca, whose population did not exceed 200 inhabitats, and there I had a wonderful childhood in a big house inside a small vicinity,  which I considered very large because there I was free. I could come in and  go out with no problems.  I played in the street, I used to ride a bicycle to cross the country and the market garden, I swam in the river, I went out and climbed the mountains, just what I wanted. And everything only  with my friends without being my parents there.

I continued my infancy at another village or town which was a bigger one.  For me that was a very perfect way of living and I believe that for any children. I remember myself being very happy at that time. I have fond childhood memories...

When I was twelve years old, I went to live to Zaragoza where I enjoyed my teens with everything  a city  can provide in those years. There I lived  with my parents until I created or set up my own home.

I decided to leave the city because I like town life. And I chose to live in La Puebla because it´s a village near Zaragoza, and it has one of the most important industrial estates of the city and it was where I worked.

Here I was be able to buy a detached house with everything I wanted. I can step on the grass, smell the wet ground,  hear a bird song  in my garden,  light the fireplace,  have an outdoor dinner.  I gather a lot of friends at my house for having a party and another things I like. It gives to me space for a comfortable life.

Now that I have two small daughters, I'd love to give them this way of  living so they can enjoy  these advantages. Perhaps when they  grow up and become teenagers, it will  be complicated for studying and for having a good time but this is the only problem  when living here.

I think that La Puebla is a complete village. It has a grocer´s shop ("La Evangelina" a shop as they were time ago), haberdashery, hardware store, restaurants, hotels, tobacconist´s, post office, pizzeria, pubs, swiming pool, gift shop, bakerys and sweets shop, taxi driver, residence for the elderly, electrical appliance repair shop, clothes shop,  two state bilingual  schools, radio, petrol station, banks, jeweller's, photograph shop,  medical centre, chemist's, hairdresser's, gym, library, physiotherapist, supermarkets, adult center, mechanical garage, stationery shop,  fishmonger's, dentist,  greengrocer's and butcher´s shop,  financial agency, pet shop,  ready-cooked food shop, driving school, state and private nursery school, playroom, hot chocolate serving, even pound Chinese shop, bicycle shop and playing ball park for the children.

Besides this town is only  twelve kilometres far or ten minutes long  from Zaragoza. Even if you want to ride a bicycle from here to Zaragoza, you can do it. There  is one nice and easy track near  the Ebro River.

I love Alta street  where you can smell the bonfire  in winter and where you will see nice flowerpots in springtime.  I love the peaceful hermitage and going  on a trip to the  Alfranca where you will be able to be close to nature and breathe the clean air. These are three of my favourite spots or places in here.  I also like very much the Medieval Market  which is set up at the park in the August festivities . I try not to lose it!

Although we are living different times, by now I continue thinking there are a lot of differences between living in a town or in a city.

All these aspects are very valuable for me. Everything is quiet around here!. It´s just quality of life!

I am happy living in La Puebla de Alfinden!

Are you happy at your place?

Would you like to move somewhere?

MY CLOSE FAMILY

Category: Elementary Tasks Date 2012-11-15 20:55:35

Hi partners,

My name is Isidro and now I am going to describe my close family for my English class.

I´m married and my wife´s name is Marta. She is a sensible person and she´s easygoing but a bit stubborn at the same time, she is from Zaragoza, of course.

She is a short woman and her hair is long and black.

Now I speak about my son. He is a very active and intelligent kid and loves trains.

He is five years old, his eyes are big and green. He is a wonderful little person who makes everyone happy.

Bye.

New Zealand (Espe and Belen)

Category: 4.- Travelling Date 2012-11-13 11:17:37

This is a dialogue between a tour-guide and a tourist near Matamata, a town from New Zealand.

-Hello, good morning everybody and welcome to The Lord of the Rings' tour.

This morning we're going to visit Alexander's farm. It's the place where "Hobbiton" was built.

-Excuse me. What's "Hobbiton"? I'm sorry but I've never heard this name before.

-Do you know nothing about this film or the book? Is that possible?

-Yes, of course. I'm the proof. I won a prize to come here but I hadn't seen the film yet.

-Well, don't worry. I'll tell you everything you want to know. To begin, think of a fantastic world with odd creatures living in there. One of them are the hobbits: short and big feet, hairy and big eaters. They live in very comfortable caves and this one you can see behind me was built together with thirty-six more caves for a nine-month period.

-Well, looks like an interesting story; and the landscape acompanies to a fantasy that I would like to know. What else about these so magical surroundings?

-Sure, magical and wonderful landscapes. Near here you can visit a nice beach, a volcano, marvellous caves, a high mountain, a glacier or just see how awesome the whales are. Then would you prefer to visit another place this evening? Because the plan is going to the territory of Mordor but you don't know what's that, do you?

-No, you’re right. So, what about the virgin places?

-What’s your preference? A thermal bath or playing with dolphins at the beach?

-The first one, please. It’ll be better to my health.

-Ok. don’t worry. I’ll phone in a minute to my maori workmate. Look, this is a photo of him. He’s is very kind and friendly. I'm sure that you'll  agree with me.

-Sure. How long do I have to wait to see that wonderful landscape?...

If you want, you can learn more about the maori culture clicking on here.

Would you like to travel to New Zealand?

Do you think that the filming of "The Lord of the Rings" has made possible that New Zealand  was better well-known now?
