Translations

Have you ever read a book product of a bad translation? Perhaps you did it but without your knowing. I reached to this thinking because as the last long weekend it was raining, even snowing almost all days in my village, I had plenty of time to try doing the translation of my short tale from Spanish to English.
It has been my first attempt to do something like that and I have to say that it's very difficult to translate a text and to keep the same meaning as the original. Some sentences needs to be translated literally to convey the same idea, even if the grammatical structure looks wrong. However others have to be changed completely for the same purpose. Since this moment I'm going to appreciate more the work of the good translators that I did it up to now…
Is the same thing with the title of the films. Why “Jaws” was changed to “Shark”? Or “Local Hero” to “Un tipo genial”? To me is a great mystery.
Here are more examples of them:

My Holidays in London.
Bea's Crazy mornings
Category: Intermediate 11-12 Date 2012-05-22 18:36:12
I haven't got the same daily routine every morning, because when you have children, you don't know, what will happen the next day.
For example, a perfect morning in my life could be like this:
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing!! the alarm clock rings, it's time to wake up, it's quarter past eight and I have to get up, then I have breakfast (I always have breakfast standing up on the working days because it is faster for me although I like having breakfast sitting down and taking it easy but this, only happens at the weekend) After that I wash my face and brush my teeth and finally I get dressed.
It's time to wake up my eldest son, he stays in bed a few minutes more, afterwards he gets up. I prepare his milk and his clothes for school. When he finishes his breakfast, he washes his face and he brushes his teeth. Then, while my eldest son get dressed I wake up my younger son. I get my son dressed and then I give him his breakfast. And we are ready for school.
But......... is "the perfect morning" but in fact it's more difficult, because I have to look my watch all the time if we don't want to arrive late to school.
You can listen all sorts of things, and excuses, muuum!!!; "I don't want to go to school, I don't like this t-shirt, I prefer another shoes, I want to watch a film on TV, Can I take this game to school?".... You couldn't imagine how much nervous you can make in a little time, and how many things you would be able to do to your son in a crazy morning.
Have you ever had a crazy morning, or a crazy afternoon? How was it?
If you have children or nephews or nieces, have you ever lived a crazy situation with them?
The team

My husband plays on a grass Hockey team and I usually travel with them when they go somewhere. Last year we were in London. The travel was organized by the team of Bracknell, we had made a coincidence with them on several tournaments. They booked us the hotel and the excursions, too.
The first day we were all day buying in London, we saw the London Eye, we took the bus and drank beer.
The other days we were in Bracknell, that is close to Windsor.
I have very good memories about this trip and about London.
See you.

Hi everyone,
This post is for letting you know that we won't have English classes this 22nd May because I think it's important to try to defend our public educational rights and system.
As always, the center will be open but English classes won't be developed, so we will meet next Thursday 24th.
I hope your understanding and support.

Good evening,
I am going to speak about my last holidays in Praga with my son. It was in September. It was very hot. We did a tour around different towns and places. The tour started in Budapest, first we were in the castle of Dracula where there were very beautiful gardens. After, we went to the Brigde of Chains, the oldest and best well known bridge in Budapest and the Danubio. We also were in a viewpoint located up the hill of Buda called The fishermen's Bastion, since there you can watch the best views of the Parliament in Budapest.
Another beautiful town is Vienna, there we witnessed an opera concert, it was just a wonder.
Neither we lost a boat ride by the Danubio river, it was incredible and very relaxing.
I remember very well this trip and I recommend it to all of you.
Goodbye!
