OUR TOWN

Category: Unit 6 Date 2007-05-08 20:03:53

Through dialogues, try to describe your town to a visitor who is really interested in living in your village in the next future.

Imagine you meet this person in the street and he/she asks you some questions in a very polite way, try to spent your time and give him/her all the required information and more.

Here I propose you some topics to talk about, choose one of them and make your dialogue with a partner:

+ Shops & supermarkets.
+ Banks
+ Leisure services and sports facilities.
+ Schools and nursery schools.
+ Pubs, bars and restaurants.
+ Houses and flats.
+ Health services.
+ Inhabitants and demographic growth.
+ Libraries and other social services.
+ Elder people services.
+ ... ....

MEN DON´T IRON, WOMEN WON´T IRON

Category: Compositions Date 2007-03-28 15:51:52

Nowadays women don't want to iron but they must do it. Whereas men don´t iron, but they don't do it because they don´t know how to do it or because they prefer to pretend not to understand.

I think that there are activities at home that nowadays hardly will do a man. But the question is that there are tasks at home that women have established like one's own.

A man can clean glasses, mop, wash dishes or cooking, but when two persons (for example a man and a woman) are couple, normally she will do the ironing.

Thirty years ago, books or commercials on TV showed men in typical jobs and women at home.

Can we hope that rules have changed in about fourty years? A lot of people think that a man and a woman are the same at work, but they don't think the same at home. Furthermore, a lot of people, women too, think that it is normal that a man hasn't got all the responsability at home, although the woman works too. All in all, nobody hopes that a man does the 100% of the housework, at least he lives alone.

In short, I have never understood why if women take the main role in boys' education, they don't know how to iron or cook or so on. And as a result, they must learn it alone.
